Assumptions

Pairing the craft and dexterity of a poet with the ability to vividly bring unlikely characters to life, Annelies Verbeke takes a wry and curious look at the quirks and customs of human behaviour and relationships.

In fifteen separate but connected stories, Assumptions weaves a narrative that is as dizzyingly disorientating as it is uncannily familiar. A roll call of unexpected individuals disappear and reappear throughout this novel-in-stories, serving to remind readers that like the book’s protagonists, they too must suspend disbelief.
