Today the English PEN Writers in Translation Committee announced nineteen PEN Translates awards to titles from fifteen countries and thirteen languages. Maryse Condé’s Waiting for the Waters to Rise is among them, and is the first book from Guadeloupe to be awarded. Books are selected for PEN Translates awards on the basis of outstanding literary quality, the strength of the publishing project, and their contribution to UK bibliodiversity.
Waiting for the Waters to Rise by Maryse Condé is translated from the French by Richard Philcox and will be published in the UK in April 2021.
