International Booker nominee Jaap Robben visits UK October 2021 for three live events!

  • London, Cheltenham and Sheffield events feature International Booker-nominated Summer Brother and launching Biography of a Fly, the Dutch bestseller.
  • Unique poster campaign in Sheffield creates extra buzz.

Jaap Robben, one of the most talked-about contemporary Dutch writers will visit the UK in October 2021 to present his latest novels.   International Booker-longlisted Summer Brother – ‘an impressive novel’ – Hilary Mantel – is the story of thirteen-year-old Brian who is struggling to look after an unexpected summer visitor – his older brother Lucien, physically and mentally disabled, who has been institutionalized for years.  Biography of a Fly (October 2021) is the beautifully illustrated life story of a fly from his first waking moments until his deathbed, making friends and living life with gusto no matter how short it is.

Critical acclaim for Jaap Robben

“It’s an impressive novel: a deceptively simple story of lives at the margin, with a child’s viewpoint perfectly pitched and sustained, it is cleanly written and powerfully imagined. It reminded me of Claire Keegan’s novella Foster, which has a girl narrator of a similar age, and is an outstanding book. But the challenges are greater here, as Robben deals with all kinds of inflammable material, and does it with such tact and understanding.”  HILARY MANTEL

Jaap Robben handles delicate, dangerous material with subtlety and sympathy.’ ―COLM TÓIBÍN
