Pierre Jarawan Presents The Storyteller in Greensboro

April 11, 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm EDT

Samir leaves the safety and comfort of his family’s new homeland, Germany, for volatile Beirut in an attempt to find his missing father. The only clues Samir has are an old picture of his father and the memory of the bedtime stories he used to tell. The Storyteller follows the turbulent search of a son for a father whose heart had always kept yearning for his homeland Lebanon. In this moving and engaging novel about family secrets, love, and friendship, Pierre Jarawan does for Lebanon what Khaled Hosseini’s The Kite Runner did for Afghanistan. He pulls away the curtain of grim facts and figures portrayed in the media and shows an intimate truth of what it means to come from a country torn apart by civil war. With this beautiful and suspenseful story, full of images, Jarawan proves to be a masterful storyteller himself.

Pierre Jarawan is an author, Slam Poet, stage writer, organizer and moderator from Munich. He was born in Amman, Jordan, in 1985, the son of a Lebanese father and a German mother, after his parents fled civil war in Lebanon. At the age of three he came to Germany.

He is also part of the reading platform “City, Land, River,” which he organizes together with Alex Burkhard.

In 2011 his text collection “Being different is Completely Normal” was published by Lektora-Verlag. His debut novel In the End, the Cedars was published in 2016 by Berlin Verlag. He has been awarded the Literaturstipendium of the City of Munich, the Bavarian Kunstförderpreis and the AZ-Literaturstern of the Year and presented as the best German-language debut at the Festival du Premier Roman in Chambéry.
