Cheltenham Literature Festival is the world’s first literature festival, leading the way in celebrating the written and spoken word, presenting the best new voices in fiction and poetry alongside literary greats and high-profile speakers, while inspiring over 9,000 school children with a love of books through its Literature for Schools programme.  This year’s festival will run from 7 to 16 October, and Rodaan Al Galidi is scheduled to make an appearance to celebrate the publication of his forthcoming novel, The Leash and the Ball, which picks up the story of Samir Karim after he is granted asylum status at the end of Al Galidi’s first novel translated into English, Two Blankets, Three Sheets.

Rodaan will be talking about his new novel The Leash and the Ball on  Monday 10 October 2-3  pm – more details here:

Rodaan will also be speaking at a free event on the Huddle Stage at 5.15 pm on Sunday 9 October.

Rodaan Al Galidi is a poet and writer. Born in Iraq and trained as a civil engineer, he has lived in the Netherlands since 1998. As an undocumented asylum seeker he did not have the right to attend language classes, so he taught himself to read and write Dutch. His novel De autist en de postduif (“The Autist and the Carrier Pigeon”) won the European Union Prize for Literature in 2011—the same year he failed his Dutch citizenship course. The Leash and the Ball is Al Galidi’s latest novel. His previous book, Two Blankets, Three Sheets, is also published by World Editions. Both titles are bestsellers in the Netherlands.
