Jeremy Tiang at the Brooklyn Book Festival: The Long Shadows of Empire

The pains of colonization are omnipresent, even when buried or seemingly removed. In Lauren Francis-Sharma’s Casualties of Truth, a woman is forced to reckon with the violence that shaped her success when she is introduced to a man from her past in apartheid South Africa. In Tochi Onyebuchi’s Harmattan Season, a private investigator is recruited to find a missing woman in post-war and French-occupied West Africa. Moderated by author and translator Jeremy Tiang (State of Emergency).
